Advanced Imaging, Inc. Patient Guide
Open Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a powerful innovation in diagnostic imaging. The AIRIS II Open MRI provides superior images with the highest degree of patient comfort.
The Advantages of MRI
Extraordinary Detail
MRI images are so clear that they approach the appearance of fine-line drawings in anatomy books.
Prompt Diagnosis
The superior clarity of MRI images enables a prompt and accurate diagnosis which can eliminate the need for other prolonged and expensive testing.
Non-Invasive
Images of the body are obtained without the use of surgery.
Safe and Painless
Images are obtained while you lie comfortably on a padded table. No radiation is used and the magnetic field that generates the images poses no danger. There are no known side effects following an MRI examination.
Before your MRI exam
There is no special preparation for an MRI exam. You can eat normally and continue to take prescribed medications as required. When you arrive at Advanced Imaging you will need to remove all metal objects that you may be carrying. This includes watches, jewelry, coins, keys, pens, eyeglasses, dentures and hairpins. Since the magnet will erase information on bank cards and credit cards, these should be stored in the locker that will be provided for your personal belongings. You may be asked to change into scrubs and the MRI technologist will escort you to the scanning room.
The extra wide gantry provides enough room to image the oversize or those who would have problems with claustrophobia or anxiety if imaged in a "tunnel type" MRI.
Pediatric patients can be imaged within the comforting reach of a parent.
Images are obtained while the patient lies comfortably on a padded table.
Your examination
You will recline comfortably on the "patient couch" and a special coil will be attached to the area of your body being examined. The couch then slides into position. Your technologist will direct the scan from the computer console, or "command center" of the system, and will talk with you through a speaker while the images are being produced and viewed on monitor. You will be asked to lie very still at a particular moment, but for the most part you can relax while the scanner and the technologist do the work. You can arrange with our receptionist to have a close friend or family member sit with you throughout the exam. An average exam takes about 45 minutes.
A certified technologist administers the test and a Board Certified Radiologist interprets the results.
After your exam
Your scan will be reviewed and interpreted by an MRI specialist and the interpretation will be relayed to your physician who will discuss the results with you. If you have any questions at all about your exam, do not hesitate to ask your physician.
"Our goal is to make your visit as easy and comfortable as possible and to provide your physician with a prompt and accurate interpretation of the results of your scan."
